Earth Day Panel: Being a Resourceful Educator
On Saturday, 22, 2023, a dedicated group of about 30 English language teachers gathered together in person to learn from four panelists with diverse teaching backgrounds. The panelists shared about how they have sustained their practices as language teachers by adapting themselves to the changing landscape during and after the pandemic. As the event was held on Earth Day, we discussed how we can employ the motto “reduce, reuse, and recycle” as educators and language professionals.
There was plenty of time for social networking before and after the panel. A delicious selection of light refreshments and drinks was served.
The panelists were Stephanie Frame, Lecturer and Assistant Director ESL Composition at SDSU, Jennie Kim, ESL Instructor at SD Community College District Continuing Education, and Krista Carraway, Business English Instructor at Connect English Language Institute. Chapter Coordinator Burcu Chatham shared some information on behalf of Gayle Obrecht, Senior Vocational ESL Instructor & Supervisor at the International Rescue Committee, who had to sit out from the panel due to illness. The panel was moderated by newsletter editor Katy Bailey, ELAC/ESL lecturer at San Diego City College and MiraCosta College.
